45 823 Mangochi families to benefit from Fisp

At  least 45 823 households in Mangochi District are set to benefit from subsidised farm inputs under the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (Fisp) during the 2026/27 agricultural season.

Mangochi District Agriculture Office Fisp coordinator Harriet Chilimbiro said the beneficiaries are farmers who belong to farm clubs and have the skills to produce organic fertiliser.

“Government is encouraging farmers to work in groups and use fertiliser that does not harm the environment,” she said.

Chilimbiro said the district’s agriculture office is doing everything possible to ensure that the farm inputs reach farmers on time.

“People will buy a 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser at K20 000 and five kilogrammes of maize seed at K10 000,” she said.

In his remarks, the district’s director of agriculture, environment and natural resources Nditani Maluwa pledged to ensure timely distribution of the farm inputs, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

He said: “We experienced glitches during previous distributions due to poor road networks, late delivery and transporters failing to reach designated areas, among other challenges.

“But this time around, we want to engage reliable distributors with the capacity to do a good job.”

Mangochi District Civil Society Organisation Network representative Funny Chilembo commended government for the initiative, saying they expect it to benefit vulnerable farmers.

Marriam Askimu from Traditional Authority Makanjira urged authorities to ensure timely delivery of the farm inputs.
